12th Street Studio FAQ

Why should I work with 12th Street Studio if I have my own home studio?

12th Street Studio is a turnkey studio specializing in content for your social media presence or your electronic press kit (EPK). Many studios in our area  — including home studios — are audio only. At 12th Street, we do audio, video and also photography.

Okay, so ‘turnkey.’ What does that mean?

We have a 16-channel recording studio as well as a space for rehearsal, equipped completely with a PA that includes mains monitors and a 5-piece Pearl drum set. We have an assortment of guitar amps, featuring Fender, Egnater and Roland brands. Additionally, we have multiple acoustic and electric guitars and basses if you need to borrow one. All we really need is you if you want to come and record.

What genres do you specialize in?

Our music tastes don’t reside in any one genre. Our music backgrounds span decades across a multitude of genres: Rock, Folk, Blues, Classic Country, Americana, Progressive Rock, Indie, Alternative, to name a few.

What if I want to mix my own recording?

We will provide a basic mix with our pricing. A basic mix is typically a line level of all vocals and instruments with minimal reverb or delay. We do not adjust pitch in a basic mix. We will provide single WAV files for you to take with you (if you bring a portable drive) or downloadable from our cloud server.

An advanced mix takes the basic mix further and will have much more detail and sound adjustments. Pricing for advanced mix varies depending on number of inputs and pitch/time adjustments and more in-depth EQ and compression modeling.

Do you both mix and master?

A “mix” is the post production process of taking your recording and adjusting the sound to blend all the elements together to get your expected listening experience. The price of your recording includes all tracks as WAV files and a mix for you in both high resolution and social channel distribution, which sometimes varies in audio quality.

Given that many artists prefer to master their music for distribution on streaming channels, you have the option to have us master your recording (at an added cost) or take your mix and individual audio files and do post production with another engineer. It is totally up to you.

Do you only record music and music videos?

No. We also have experience with podcasts in audio or video format. Whatever media you want to record in audio, video or photography, we can work with you to produce that content. Our primary areas of specialty are audio, music video, photography, and podcasting.

Do you help with song arrangements and tips to help find my ‘sound’?

Though we don’t freely offer consultation on your music (after all it is your music), we’d be happy to assist with suggestion; simply ask. Tony Perri is an experienced songwriter with a catalog of original music he has written and recorded. Some of Tony’s original compositions can be found here – https://www.youtube.com/@tonypmuzic.

Our songs aren’t quite polished yet. Do you offer a space for rehearsal?

We totally understand wanting to come into the studio and nail it as fast as possible, especially if you are paying by the hour. 12th Street Studio is available to rent by the hour as rehearsal space. Simply fill out the form above and we can schedule a rehearsal for you at a rate of $50 for a 2-hour timeslot.

What about refreshments?

We carry a variety of snacks and beverage refreshments to keep you going while you are working in the studio. We also have coffee and tea. The building our studio is housed in has a full kitchen.

What about parking?

There is plenty of free parking in the building parking lot.
